Dr Chandra Bhanu Satpathy was inspired to write the first four lines of his magnum opus captioned “Shri Guru Bhagwat” on the 30th of November 2001, which happened to be the auspicious day of Kartik Poornima in India.
Originally written in Odia language, the first volume was published in the year 2010 and released on 14th of October 2010 in Bhubaneswar. The other seven volumes were published between 2010 to 2020.
The nine volumes written so far contain about 38k lines with each line containing nine letters (Nabakshyari Chhanda). It is woven in a poetic verse that runs to about 19k couplets and 9,500 quadruplets.
The word “Guru” stands for a teacher, mentor, or guide, both in the spiritual and the material worlds. However, this book mostly deals with the Spiritual Teachers and Gurus. It brings forth the various aspects of the Guru-Shishya (mentor-disciple) tradition prevalent in India and also in societies elsewhere. It elaborates on the different types of Gurus and disciples, their pious relationships, and various inter-related matters of significance.
